It become very popular in UK during the late 1970s and remained popular in 1980s.
Punk ideologies
Punk ideologies are a group of varied social and political beliefs associated with the punk subculture. Punk subculture was concerned with concepts such as rebellion, anti-authoritarianism, individualism, free thought, and discontent. Punk ideologies are usually expressed through punk rock music, punk literature, spoken word recordings, punk fashion, or punk visual art. Some punks have participated in direct action, such as protests, boycotts, squatting, and vandalism.
PUNK LIFESTYLES
One notable attitude common within the punk subculture is the opposition to selling out, which refers to abandonment of personal values in exchange for wealth, status or power. Another meaning of selling out is for a punk band to change its musical style, such as to pop or more friendly, rock. Because anti-establishment and anti-capitalist attitudes are such an important part of the punk subculture, a network of independent record labels, venues and distributors has developed. The do it yourself (DIY) ideal is common in the punk scene, especially in terms of music recording and distribution, concert promotion, magazines, posters and flyers.
PUNK FASHION
Punk fashion is a style of clothing, hairstyles, cosmetics, jewelry, and body modifications of the punk subculture. The clothes suited the lifestyle of those with limited cash due to unemployment and the low income of young people. It often displays aggression, rebellion and individualism. Some punks wear clothing or have tattoos that express sociopolitical messages. Many punks wear second hand clothing, partly as an anti-consumerist statement.
Whilst torn fabrics, frayed edges and defaced prints are now considered normal in the 21st century. Trousers were deliberately torn to reveal laddered tights and dirty legs. Body piercing and tattoos in the 1980s became fashionable for punks. The punks had studs and pins in facial parts such as eyebrows, cheeks, noses and lips.
PUNK MAKEUP
Eyes were emphasized with black makeup and vampire like lips drew more attention to the face.
HAIRSTYLES
The punk hairstyle style belongs to 1970s and 1980s. Punk hairstyles can express the personality of a punk. The different types of punk hairstyle are skate punk, original style, horror or death punk as well as pop punk style. Major part of the punk look was often spiked into a Mohican hairstyle by a variety of means including sugar and water solutions, PVA glue, hairsprays and hair gel. Their hair was coloured jet black or bleached white blonde with food dyes.

The band inspired many lesser-known contemporaries such as Dave Peel and the Lower East Side, who produced such infamous songs on the album, The Pope Smokes Dope. Another band to play at the Dom was The Velvet Underground.
